Proprietary, flat diaphragm planar ribbon transducers made by Solus that possess an extremely flat-wide frequency range, flat phase and impedance capability, high power handling capacity, and above average efficiency. Extremely fast, highly controlled kapton diaphragm produces acoustic detail and articulation masked by other driver types.
TRANSFORMERLESS "Planar-Ribbon" DRIVER DESIGN -
Unique, chemically etched ribbon diaphragm allows for proper impedance characteristics as by inherent design obviating the need for a transformer to achieve the same result. Transformers are devices known to impose considerable phase anomalies in the signal. Solus's ribbon design eliminates this problem while adding great flexibility for the user in his or her choice of system components due to its impedance insensitivity to different amplifier designs.
Extended Range 'Ribbon' Component
Low Mass / High Percentage Driven Area Design - Light weight Kapton diaphragm and aluminum voice coil results in phenomenal transient response ability with time decays reaching -30dB in under 1.3 ms ( most tweeters take 5 to 10 ms ). The minimum driven area design ( the part of diaphragm that moves ) is centered directly over the magnetic field for maximum efficiency, diaphragm control, and virtually perfect damping. The result is extremely fast responsiveness, both starting and stopping, while producing a highly linear and flat frequency response of 2k to 50k +/- .6dB.
Unique, Optimized Dispersion Lens Assembly
The ribbon dispersion lens provides linear coupling to the room air mass while increasing efficiency and shaping dispersion characteristics. This shaping reduces floor and ceiling reflections while increasing horizontal dispersion resulting in a smooth, wide sound field.
Shaped Magnetic Flux Lines
The unique motor assembly is a high efficiency, high power handling design. Directing the lines of magnetic force out of the gap in a centered pattern for diaphragm drive allows the Solus ribbon to successfully achieve high power handling in a planar speaker.
Integrated Raw Component / Crossover Design
The raw driver components and crossover are designed as a complete, complimentary system allowing highly linear first order electrical components to achieve a perfect, symmetrical third order acoustic response for over 3 octaves on either side of the crossover point.
Quality Component Use
Polypropylene Capacitors - Series placed polypropylene capacitors and bypasses deliver clean, linear response with spike free transients and live music dynamics, warmth and subtle details.
Low Insertion Loss Inductors
Super low loss, Solus made, steel laminate inductors are wound to exact values and optimized for low insertion ( power ) loss and maximum dampening capability. More power is delivered to the woofer producing cleaner, tighter bass response.
High Power / Low Inductance Resistors
Non inductive, high power handling wire wound resistors are used in all Solus loudspeakers because they do not limit high frequency response.
Multiple Quality Control Checks - All Solus crossover components are individually checked for value integrity, and then checked again for tight system integration performance. The result is unit to unit performance consistency of the highest standard.
